Finding Our Direction: A Year In Reflection
This year unfolded with intention — and with more growth than I could have imagined.
As the year draws to a close, I’ve found myself slowing down and looking closely at what this season revealed. Not just what was created, but what became clear along the way. This year was less about expanding outward for expansion’s sake, and more about refining inward — allowing direction to emerge naturally, and then honoring it.
Light has a way of doing that. When you pause long enough, it shows you what belongs.
What This Year Taught Me About Craft
Every lampshade that leaves the atelier carries something with it — a lesson, a refinement, a deeper understanding of the work. Some lessons are technical, learned through repetition and problem-solving. Others are quieter, discovered through patience and restraint.
This year deepened my understanding of where Admiral Landings Designs serves best. It was the year of finding our niche within the niche — not by doing more, but by committing fully to what we do well. Refinement became the goal. Clarity became the guide.
Craft, I’ve learned, isn’t measured by output. It’s measured by intention.
Slowing Down Brought Direction
Slowing down created space — and in that space, clarity followed.
As the year unfolded, it became clear where ALD could offer the most value to its clients, and that clarity required a pivot in planning. Not a reactionary shift, but a purposeful recalibration rooted in confidence and discernment.
Slowing Down
This year asked us to slow down.
To refine instead of expand.
To choose intention over urgency.
This adjustment shaped how work was approached, how decisions were made, and how new designs were paced. It wasn’t about stepping back — it was about aligning forward.
Growth That Strengthened the Work
Alongside that clarity came momentum.
This year brought meaningful growth — new custom clientele, publishing opportunities, expanded resources, and increased visibility — all of which strengthened Admiral Landings Designs in tangible ways. Behind the scenes, my network grew, opening doors to better sourcing, deeper collaboration, and tools that allow me to offer clients the highest level of craftsmanship possible.
The growth was visible, affirming, and deeply appreciated. And it was held with gratitude.
Why In-Person Experience Still Matters
This year also reinforced something I believe deeply: lighting is meant to be experienced.
Through seasonal, in-person shows, Admiral Landings Designs was established in a new way — allowing people to encounter the work illuminated, to see how materials respond to light, and to understand the intention behind each piece. The feedback was generous and encouraging, affirming both the work itself and the direction it’s taking.
Some designs deserve to be encountered first — not scrolled past. In those moments, the work spoke clearly, without explanation.
Gratitude for the People Behind the Light
None of this happens alone.
I’m deeply grateful for the clients, designers, collaborators, and collectors who trusted the process, supported the work, and shared it in spaces I may never enter. Thank you for valuing craftsmanship, patience, and the slow refinement that meaningful pieces require.
And thank you to my family, whose steady support behind the scenes continues to make this work possible in ways both seen and unseen.
Looking Ahead with Intention
The coming year will reflect what this season made clear — a continued commitment to craftsmanship, a respect for timing, and a thoughtful approach to how new designs are introduced and experienced.
Not everything needs to be shared immediately. Some work benefits from the right moment, the right setting, and the right pace. That intention will continue to guide what comes next.
A Quiet Thank You
Thank you for being here — for following along, for supporting slow interiors, and for believing in light as something more than illumination.
Wishing you a season filled with warmth, reflection, and moments that linger long after the lights are dimmed.
